ALC-2001: Canceled
A statement or an assistant request stopped because you asked it to. Nothing is wrong, and there is nothing to fix.
What you see
Section titled “What you see”In a query tab, the result bar reads Canceled after and the time it ran, and the result area reads Canceled.
In the assistant pane, the answer stops where it was and Stopped. appears under it.
Why it happens
Section titled “Why it happens”- You clicked Cancel in a query tab, pressed ⌘. on macOS or Ctrl+. on Windows and Linux, or ran Cancel query from the command palette.
- You clicked Stop in the assistant pane.
A statement stopped by a time limit is not this error; see ALC-2002.
What to do
Section titled “What to do”Nothing, unless you want the work to finish. Some things to know about what a cancel leaves behind:
- The canceled statement changed nothing. Postgres rolls back a statement that does not finish.
- In a script, earlier statements may have run. Outside a transaction each statement commits when it finishes, so statements before the canceled one stay done.
- Inside a transaction, the transaction has failed. Every further statement fails with
current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction blockuntil you roll back. Run Roll back transaction from the command palette, then start again. - The assistant keeps what it wrote before you stopped it. Ask again for a full answer.
Internal name
Section titled “Internal name”The engine reports this as ENGINE_CANCELLED. Quote either name in an issue.
